Dreamy questions this week from Cee.

What did I come in here for

What’s your strongest sense?

Sight.  But only when I actively look at something.  I can be looking for my favourite mug and it’s right in front of me.  I think my colour vision is particularly intense, hence my violent response to orange.

Orange.jpg

Which of Snow White’s 7 dwarfs describes you best? (Doc, Happy, Bashful, Sleepy, Sneezy, Grumpy, Dopey)

Dopey? Though I did just sneeze…

If you could be one age for the rest of your life, what age would that be?

I enjoyed being 27, so I’ll go with that.

List of Jobs You Think You Might Enjoy: Even if you aren’t thinking about a career change, it can be fun to think of other jobs you might enjoy.  [Remember:  This is SYW where even your dreams can become reality.]

I would love to be an art teacher/therapist working with children.

I had a brief period as a holistic therapist and that was wonderful.

I’m thinking Cee has a hankering for a holiday this week…

Heathrow Welcome 2016.jpg

What is the most famous landmark or building you have ever seen?

Big Ben, Stonehenge and Ben Nevis.  Phew, that was one exhausting day.

Bens.jpg

Do you like long vacation or lots of mini-vacations?

Both, please.

Vacations not.jpg

What is your favorite National or State Park?

The Lake District but only because the Scottish Highlands and Islands are not one.

What is your fantasy vacation?

I’d like to sail in some sort of lovely little yacht (with a small crew because, crikey, I can’t drive this thing!) all around the west coast of Scotland, stopping off at various islands and deserted beaches to indulge in a bit of beachcombing, creation of sand sculptures and photography.

Bon voyage!

Thanks to Cee for this week’s probing questions.

Cashier Jane.jpg

How many languages do you you speak?

Only this one.  Though I can ask you to fill out a form and give basic directions in Russian. Spakoina Nocha.

What are you reading, watching, listening to, eating?

The Tao of Pooh, a couple of biographies and The Seven Basic Plots.  Also loads of blogs, obviously.

Follow The Money, The Leftovers, YouTube tutorials on things I’ll probably never do.

Elbow, The Stranglers, Tame Impala, Nirvana and lots of Bananarama (for some reason) (the latter NOT my choice!)  Also Max Richter and Johan Johannsson. Birdsong and catwail.

Porridge.

What was the last photo you took with your phone?

I actually filmed a swollen stream after the rain.  Dog walking distractions.  It was quite meditative with the dripping ferns.  The last photo was of creeping buttercup.

Buttercup selfie.jpg

What is your favourite time of day?

Dawn is undoubtedly the most magical time of day but I rarely see it as I am such a terrible night owl.  Sunset can be a treat for the eyes but I’m really firing on all cylinders at midnight.  I do like a nice walk on a moonlit night, there’s something extra special about a moonshadow.

Time for some questions from Cee.

Pink marshmallows.jpg

When you’re alone at home, do you wear shoes, socks, slippers, or go barefoot?

I live in flip flops as long as it is warm enough.  And sometimes when it is not.

Blue feet.jpg

What was your favorite food when you were a child?

My great auntie Lil’s homemade sausage rolls.  I’ve never tasted a sausage roll to rival them and just thinking of them makes my mouth water – I remember the taste so well… Urgh, sorry, dribbling on the keyboard now.

Sausage rolls.jpg (True story) (ish)

Are you a listener or talker?

What was that, sorry?  Heh heh, a bit of both but mainly a daydreamer…

Daydreamer.jpg

Favorite thing to (pick one):  Photograph?  Write? Or Cook?

I like writing fiction.

Time for this week’s questions from Cee.

Knock Knock.jpgInsert

Would you rather live where it is always hot or always cold?

Cold because I can wrap up warm in layers but if it is hot I cannot remove my skin. Hang on – who let Hannibal Lecter in here..?

Vest.jpg

Do you prefer long hair or short hair for yourself?

Short.  I have weird curly hair that grows upwards and disobeys the rules of physics.  I keep it in check by making sure it doesn’t get above itself, or me.

Tame that hair.jpg

What is your favorite month of the year?

It was always June because of the long days but now I get hayfever in June so I’m swaying more towards May, though that is pretty sneezy too.

What is the easiest way for you to learn something new?  By reading, by seeing and doing, in a classroom?

These days I like to watch online videos to learn but before the internet was invented I always found books a great source of knowledge and read everything I could get my hands on.  I love learning and I’ll have a go at most things.

Get well soon Cee and thanks for this week’s questions from Ribbonrx.com

What’s something you like to do the old-fashioned way?

Talking.  I love old-fashioned expressions like ‘Frock’ and ‘Fancy goods’ and ‘Carrying on’. As in, “He’s been carrying on with that sort from number 37, you know.  Bought her a new frock last week and various other fancy goods.'” Due to the prevalence of smartphones and I-pads I think there’s far too much grunting goes on in place of conversation these days.  Language is our most amazing skill and we need to give it some love.

What’s your favorite genre of book or movie?

I like a nice tangledy psychological drama with plenty to make me think. Skeletons in the closet, black humour and a jolly good twist at the end.  Not much to ask is it?  With a movie, I like to sit there working out the plot while my partner gets closer and closer to the edge of the sofa, eyes and mouth growing wider and the dog getting balder and flatter under the stressed out hand stroking him ever more firmly into the cushions as the climax approaches…  Yes, I said ‘climax’.

Stroke.jpg

How often do you people watch?

Not as often as I blinking should!  I’m in my own little world, me.  I’m always dead proud of myself if I notice an event or incident taking place within my vicinity.  “Ooh, humans!” I say, vaguely aware of movement and flashing blue lights somewhere to my left.  Meanwhile, my brain’s gone off on a tangent about early man developing the concept of edgy cave art.

Brian's Blood.jpg

What have you only recently formed an opinion about?

Humanity.  It’s not looking good.

Let’s talk while we eat…

Does your first or middle name have any significance (or were you named after another family member)?

My middle name means ‘Peace’ but I am named after various family members and have ended up with the initials – JIF. I wasn’t half cross when they renamed the cleaning product CIF.  Hey, maybe with the wonderful opportunities afforded to our newly-fractured country (thanks Cameron) we’ll get JIF back on the shelves.  Every cloud…

Silver Lining.jpg

Music or silence while working?

Sshhh!

Music for dancing, silence for working.

Silent disco.jpg

If you had a special place for your three most special possessions (not including photos, electronics, people or animals), what would they be?

If I could drive it would be my VW campervan, which I haven’t got.  Then I could take my special possessions to the beach.  Three special things?  It all depends on my moods.  I’ve got a couple of rather lovely tarot decks featuring classical works of art, which I’d probably run into a burning house to rescue as I paid so much for them.  Ditto my bloody gorgeous six volume boxed edition of Proust’s In Search of Lost Time (which, ironically, I can never find the time to continue reading).  And, thirdly, the pile of chaos on and around my desk, which includes all the crap I need to draw, paint, create and craft all the various things I feel the urge to produce at any given moment.

The Never List: What are things you know you never will do?

Get married, have children, move to the USA, vote Conservative, climb Everest, swim the Channel, wear anything orange.  I feel especially strongly about the orange thing.

Wearing orange.jpg

See, I haven’t even got a proper orange pen.

Little Monster Girl suggested I join in with Cee’s Share Your World so I thought I would have a bash and see how it goes.  Each week there are four questions –

Ever ran out of gas in your vehicle?

My legs are my vehicle and yes.

mush

Which are better: black or green olives?

Broccoli.

If you were a great explorer, what would you explore?

The human psyche.

Quotes List: At least three of your favorite quotes?

I have a number of these on my desktop for permanent motivation.  I struggled to whittle it down to five.

“Be happy for this moment. This moment is your life.” – Omar Khayyam

“Laughter is an instant vacation.”- Milton Berle

“How wonderful it is that nobody need wait a single moment before starting to improve the world.” – Anne Frank

“The most wasted of all days is one without laughter.” – E.E. Cummings

“A person without a sense of humour is like a wagon with no springs. It is jolted by every pebble on the road.” – Henry Ward Beecher
